NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING OF THE
CARROLL COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CARROLL COUNTY, VIRGINIA
TO IMPOSE A TAX ON THE PROBATE OF A WILL OR GRANT OF
ADMINISTRATION AND IMPOSING A FEE OF $25 FOR THE RECORDATION
OF A LIST OF HEIRS OR AFFIDAVIT FILED PURSUANT TO
SECTIONS 64.1-134 OR 64.1-135 OF THE CODE OF VIRGINIA

Pursuant to § 15.2-1427 of the Code of Virginia, Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Carroll, Virginia (the “County”), will conduct a public hearing at the meeting of the Board of Supervisors of the County to he held on August 9, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as possible in the Board of Supervisors meeting room at the Carroll County Courthouse located at 605 Pine Street, Hillsville, Virginia to receive public comment to consider and adopt an ordinance imposing a tax on the probate of a will or grant of administration in an amount of one-third of the amount of the state tax thereon as provided in § 58.1-1712 of the Code of Virginia, and imposing a fee of $25 for the recordation of a list of heirs or affidavit filed pursuant to §§ 64.1-134 or 64.1-135 of the Code of Virginia;


A copy of the full text of the Ordinance and documentation for the proposed fees is on file in the office of the County Administrator of Carroll County, 605 Pine Street, Hillsville, Virginia 24343 and is available for public inspection during normal business hours or you may download here.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
CARROLL COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
COUNTYWIDE COMMENT MEETING

Date: August 3, 2010

Time: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Place: Carroll County High School Cafeteria

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors and the Carroll County Planning Commission are updating the Carroll County Comprehensive Plan. The first draft of the Plan is available for public review at www.plancarrollcounty.org.

There will be a countywide meeting will be held August 3, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Carroll County High School to receive public comments concerning the Plan.

All members of the public are invited to attend and participate. Members of the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and members of the Carroll County Planning Commission may be in attendance at this meeting and public business will be discussed.

Laurel Fork Volunteer Fire Department
Recruitment Announcement

The Laurel Fork Vol. Fire Department (LFVFD), in Laurel Fork, Virginia will celebrate its 45th anniversary of incorporation in 2011. As the department nears this significant milestone, it must continue to develop new leaders to provide this important community service.

LFVFD is currently accepting applications for prospective volunteer firefighters, auxiliary, and administrative vacancies to strengthen its fire department and community service for the citizens it serves.
To be considered, candidates must meet certain qualifiers established in the By-Laws of the LFVFD and Carroll County’s Fire Service. Members will receive orientation and training related to their area of interest and department need.

EMT B Class
Carroll County Emergency Services

There are plans to hold an EMT B Class at the Carroll County Fire Rescue building on Floyd Pike in Hillsville starting mid August. Anyone interested should fill out the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM, or you may register by phone 276-730-3007, or by email Kathy Surratt before July 30 at 5:00 p.m.

Anyone taking this class must hold a CPR certification. In the event you do not hold this certification, please contact to arrange a CPR class before the start of the EMT-B class.


The cost for the class is dependent upon the affiliation with a county squad or fire department:


1. If affiliated with a county squad or fire department, the cost would minimal for your class supplies which would be:

a. 5 inch three ring binder
b. Two pencils with eraser and a blue/black pen NO RED
c. Dry-erase marker and highlighter
d. 4x5 index cards
e. There will be a test fee at the end of the class of $50.
f. Text book and workbook will be provided but at the end of the class the text book is to be turned back in to the agency in good condition otherwise replacement cost of the lost or destroyed book of $90 will be required.


2.    If you are not affiliated with a squad or fire department you will be required to pay $100 for the class and $90 for the book and workbook up front as well as the test fee ($50) at the end of the class.


There is a maximum class size of 25 and students participating will be based on first come, first serve if you are affiliated with a local squad or department, anyone not affiliated may participate if space is available.
